Brahma Muhurta — The Sacred Pre-Dawn Hour
Updated: 2026-09-09 • By Seema Ji, DeviAstro
What is Brahma Muhurta?
Brahma Muhurta (ब्रह्म मुहूर्त) is the auspicious pre-dawn period approximately 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise. In Vedic tradition, this is considered the most sacred time for meditation, mantra chanting, yoga, and spiritual study. The name means "the creator's hour" — the time when Brahma (cosmic creative energy) is most active.
During Brahma Muhurta, the atmosphere is saturated with Sattva (purity), the mind is naturally calm after rest, and Prana (life force) flows most freely through the subtle channels (Nadis).
